Rare Satinspur Stanhope Microscopic Brooch Niagara Falls

Description

An extremely rare Stanhope Microscopic brooch, featuring 4 views of Niagara Falls when viewed through the Stanhope: 'Souvenir of Niagra Falls, Horseshoe Falls, American Falls, Prospect Point and Whirlpool Rapids, Made in France' The brooch is made from Satinspar, a type of feldspar that was mined in the Niagara Falls area in the late 19th and early 20th century. Hanging on a chain from the body of the brooch is the Stanhope enabling the viewing when the hole is looked into. (Unfortunately it is impossible to photograph the view inside!) The brooch is a gold coloured metal and has a good fastening clip to the back.

  

A wonderful and very rare brooch in great antique collector's condition. An amazing invention.
