Description

A very rare and unusual Edwardian solid silver Potpourri Box by the renowned silversmith William Comyns. The unusual shape is a semi-circular design, with a pull-off lid. The sides of the box are very prettily embossed with swirls. The lid has a superbly pierced design and a flower and leaf pattern and is slightly protruding at the front to ease the removal of the lid. Hallmarks are visible on the inside of the lip for the London Assay Office with a date mark for 1906, along with the maker’s mark and Lion Passant indicating sterling silver. Partial marks are also visible on the side of the lid. The interior has a light gilt wash.

The silver is a good heavy gauge. Exceptional collector’s item due to its rarity and great condition.

Condition: In great antique collector’s condition.
