Rare Cheshire Cat Silver Toast Rack Birmingham 1910

1900 - 1920
Description

A very rare solid silver Toast Rack in a most attractive style. Both ends of the toast rack are in the from of a smiling Cheshire Cat. Made up of four compartments, the rack sits on a neat frame with four flat ball feet and a nice neat carrying handle at the top. Hallmarks are visible on one end of the toast rack for the Birmingham Assay Office, with Lion Passant indicating sterling silver and maker's mark for the renowned silversmith Levi & Salaman.

 

A very collectable toast rack, due to its rarity and also the very charming yet quirky design!

 

Condition: There has been some repair where the cat on one end meets the base: a split at the corner of the base which is visible when viewed through a loupe,however, this does not detract from the item. (Please see images for verification of condition).

 

Hallmarks and maker's marks: Birmingham 1910 by Levi & Salaman.
