Quality Mahogany Cased Canteen of Silver Plate Dessert Knives and Forks

Description

This is a good quality, mahogany cased canteen of dessert knives and forks with mother of pearl handles. There are twelve knives and twelve forks, each is in very good condition with some slight tarnishing and fine surface scratches to the silver plate. The mahogany case has a brass cartouche to the top with the initial ‘B’. It is lined with purple velvet to the interior and is in very good condition, the maker’s plate reveals it was manufactured by Finnigan’s of London, Manchester and Liverpool. The case is 29cm wide. The knives and forks are stamped with a maker’s mark, revealing they were made by Frank Cobb & Co. of Sheffield. The canteen dates from circa 1920.
