Woodbridge Antiques has dated this piece to the Edwardian era.
Hinged on one side the lid opens and closes perfectly, and there is a loop for fastening attached to one side. The case has clear hallmarks visible on the inside lip for the Birmingham Assay Office, with a date mark for 1903 and the Lion Passant indicating sterling silver, along with the silversmith's maker's mark for Jones & Compton.
