Description

Rare and exquisite, a most magnificent large photograph frame made from tortoiseshell with a glossy patina showcasing the beautiful markings and colours ranging from golden Champagne to rich chocolate brown.

The shell is mounted with highly decorative repousse pierce or reticulated sliver, quite stunning. The silver bears the full English sterling silver hallmark for London 1901 together with the makers mark Gy & Co for Grey and Company.

Grey & Co,

The firm was founded in London by William Grey in 1876 and from 1886 to 1936 was active under the name of Grey & Co.

Grey & Co was noted for their novelties in silver and supplied retail establishments such as Asprey & Co (London).

Wonderful heirloom piece for the advanced collector, measuring an imposing 11 3/4" x 8 1/2" wide with an opening of 8" x 6".
