It was listed by The Silver Cabinet. Sold pieces stay on Sellingantiques as a record of what has passed through, and the next one is rarely far away.
The Silver Cabinet has dated this piece to the Edwardian era.
The lid is spring-loaded - there is a little movement in the hinge but not enough to stop it closing soundly. The gilding inside is in excellent condition, which I'm struggling to photograph because the lid keeps closing. The inside cover, which is removable, features a green half penny stamp stuck to some hardboard.
