Woodbridge Antiques has dated this piece to the Victorian era.
In the centre of the mug is a circular empty cartouch. Very clear hallmarks are visible on the base for the London Assay Office with a date mark for 1884 and Lion Passant indicating sterling silver. A finest quality item associated with a fine silversmith: Holland Aldwinckle & Slater (John Aldwinckle & James Slater).

A superb Christening mug, the quality of the silversmith is very apparent!
