Woodbridge Antiques has dated this piece to the Edwardian era.
The lid is hinged and opens and closes perfectly. There is a neat pattern around the lip of the lid that further enhances the lovely appearance of the box. The sides are adorned with engraved swags and embossed fruits. The interior of the box has been re-gilded and is a lovely golden colour. Clear hallmarks are visible just beneath the lid of the box for London 1903 and there is an 'F' indicating import marks (this mark suggests that the item was made between 1867 and 1904, after that date a different mark was used). The silver importer's marks are also very clear for Julius Blanckensee. These marks are also visible on the side of the lid.

A truly superior silver box, unusual and such a lovely size and design and a good heavy gauge weight.

Condition: This box is in excellent collector's condition. (there is some fine superficial scratching to the underneath base of the box which I mention for accuracy only!
