Puckerings has dated this piece to the 1900s.
The hallmark is on the egg but is rubbed and I think it may have the initials CS FS for Cornelius Saunders and Francis Shepard. We think also that the hallmark is for the highly desirable Chester assay office and the year 1901, a very early Edwardian example.
The bird head top unscrews perfectly and retains it's original cork interior which would have prevented spillage and evaporation of the precious contents.
Excellent condition (one tiny dent to egg, mentioned for accuracy) measuring 2 7/8" including chatelaine chain and ring ... the egg and bird's head measure approx. 1 5/8".
