Puckerings has dated this piece to the 1890s.
Both the catch to the side of the box and the hinge are both in perfect working order. The interior retains two sets of complete playing cards, it's hard to come by this size box complete with this size of cards, the cards measuring 2 3/4" x 2".
There is a clear hallmark to both pieces of silver for the highly collectible Chester assay office and the year 1899. The makers initials are also S.I. Ld. for Stokes and Ireland Ltd - William Henry Stokes and Arther George Ireland.
Excellent condition and measuring 3" x 2 1/8" x 1 1/2".
