It is also marked Jones, 41 St James, London W. - Thomas Jones ran this shop in London and he also had a shop in Paris at 23 Boulevard des Capucines in Paris where he specialised in top quality luxury objects often mounted in gold and silver.
This is a very interesting item, the case itself is quite lovely with brilliant and vividly coloured tortoiseshell, but it is also full of journal entries from the early 1900’s describing a life of intellectual enquiry particularly on the subjects of philosophy and theology.
It refers also to various prominent people of the day with lots of comments on horse racing and various members of the aristocracy.
There are also very many quotes ‘platonic friendship never really exists except between eunuchs and Suffragettes or unless it arises from the cold ashes of sated passion’ plus many other quotes from various sources.
There is small pouch inside both the front and back covers, one with some amusing cuttings in it, and there is what looks to be original pencil.
The closing mechanism is sprung and it works perfectly.
The condition is very good, the hallmarks are very clear and the only problem I can find with it is some very minor scratching to the tortoiseshell on the rear.
