Serpentine Antiques has dated this piece to the 1900s.
It was given on July 4, 1905, to Mrs. F.T.
The building was designed by Holland W. Hobbiss, the most important architect in Birmingham, at a time when the population was increasing and more buildings were required.
Such trowels were given on important ceremonial occasions to mark the laying of a foundation stone, or at a "topping out" ceremony, and appropriately inscribed to record the event. Much history can be learned through studying these items.

Size-large at 12.75 inches long by 3.75 inches wide.
Weight-235 grams.
In addition to being a beautiful item to display, these are now used as excellent dessert slices. They are very efficient serving pieces for cakes and desserts, and a great talking point at the dining table!

A lovely and functional piece of history in very good condition, with no cracks or stains to the ivory. This is a very nice example.
