Robert Bush Antiques has dated this piece to the Victorian era.
It has a gilded interior and is clearly hallmarked on both the base and the lid for London 1897 and it also has the initials EGP which is for Eustace George Parker who was renowned particularly for importing super quality silver items from the continent.

It meaures 5” (12.5 cm) high and the heart is 4 1/4” (11 cm ) across and it weighs 355 grams.
This is a particularly striking box, large and handsome with lovely decoration on the lid and all round the body, and with a highly decorative pierced and floral frieze around the bottom of the box between the legs which are tall and elegant with hoof feet.
There are no signs of any damage or repairs and all round this is a super box.
