Sheffield 1904 Solid Silver Pair of Menu Holders in the Original Case by Roberts and Belk, Famous Makers.

Description

Sheffield 1904 English hallmarked solid silver pair of menu or place card holders in the original fitted case, by Roberts and Belk, famous makers.

Such items were used on the dining table to hold printed copies of the dinner menu, or to hold individual place cards.

This pair is designed with a gadrooned edge circular top upon a similar base, with silver rings behind, that act to hold the menu. They stand on felt lined weighted bases to protect the table surface.

Today, in addition to being used in a formal table setting, they can also be used to hold business cards.

Size-1.5 inches diameter by 1.5 inches high (each menu holder)

Case size overall-3.25 inches by 1 7/8 inches by 1 3/8 inches high.

Weight overall for shipping-91 grams.

A lovely pair of collectable pieces of novelty silver, in the original fitted case, in very good condition.
