Description

A fabulous large pair of Victorian Scottish silver sweetmeat of Bon Bon dishes each with matching pierced decoration and supported on highly decorative cast feet. They are made by the much sought after silversmith, Hamilton & Inches and both are fully hallmarked for Edinburgh 1898.

8 inches (maximum diameter)

1.75 inches high

These superb dishes are beautiful quality and an excellent weight (464 grams in total) and are in as new condition.

Hamilton & Inches was founded in Edinburgh in 1866 by Robert Kirk Inches and his uncle, James Hamilton.

In the late 19th century the firm obtained a Royal appointment as "goldsmiths, silversmiths, clock & watchmakers to Her Majesty" Queen Victoria.

In 1992 the family sold the business to world famous Asprey of London, however from 1998, after a management buy-out, Hamilton & Inches was sold by Asprey and returned an independent company.

Hamilton and Inches is now the only Scottish manufacturing goldsmiths company to survive from 19th century and hold a Royal Warrant to Her Majesty The Queen Elizabeth II as silversmiths.
