Silver 'Castle-top' Vinaigrette of Abbotsford

Description

A fine quality early Victorian silver "Castle-top" VINAIGRETTE in excellent original condition. (Excuse slight distortion in the first image; it is perfect!)

The lid depicts "Abbotsford" in high relief, whilst inside can be found the beautiful engraved and fire-gilt pierced grill and sponge below. Maker "G.W" probably Gervase Wheeler, and hallmarked for Birmingham 1839.

***Abbotsford is a large house in the Scottish Borders, once the home of novelist Sir Walter Scott.
