Unusual Antique Britannia Standard Silver Bowl 1914 - Unicorn & Lion

Description

This is a superb antique Britannia standard silver bowl with two handles measuring 8 1/4" (21 cms) from handle to handle x 5 1/2" (14 cms) deep x 4" (10 cms) high.

It's in excellent condition and has unusual decoration of a lion and a unicorn in between flowers.

It’s hallmarked for London 1914 with the silversmiths mark for Charles Henry Townley & John William Thomas of Thomas of New Bond St - it's also marked underneath 'Thomas, 153, New Bond St'.

It's in excellent condition and is very heavy at 630.2 grams.

Britannia standard silver is an alloy of silver containing 95.84% silver, with the balance usually copper and since the hallmarking changes of 1999 Britannia silver has been denoted by the hallmark 958 .
