Description:

Here is a very good quality antique French Duchess walnut footstool, in the Carolean style, circa 1870, which has been newly upholstered. A stool of this quality and size would most likely have been used in a French country house. The stool benefits from a lovely serpentine frame. It has been newly upholstered in top quality hard wearing structured wool and cotton stripped fabric, in pale gold and cream colours, finished with matching braiding. The seat itself is firmly sprung and is very comfortable to sit on or rest your feet. The underside has been with traditional hessian material. The stool stands on four ring-turned tapering legs, with pretty melon carved shoulders, which are connected by a ring turned “H” stretcher for added strength and elegance. The legs terminate on elegant bun feet. The design of the stools’ legs and stretchers are mirror matched on either side.

This is a top quality footstool, which is very functional as it consumes little space. It is rare to see stools of this quality, with the lovely turned legs and stretchers, which are constructed of solid walnut; it makes this stool very desirable.

Condition Report:

This footstool is in good condition. The stool has been newly upholstered in top quality hard wearing woven wool and cotton structured fabric, with matching braiding. The upholstery is therefore new, clean and free from any wear, dirt or damage. Nominal old use marks to the leading edges of the walnut frame, but nothing significant considering the age of the item. Importantly, there are no breaks to the arms or legs. This item is solid in joint and ready to use.
