Stunning Antique Victorian Solid Silver Claret Jug

Status: This item has been sold
Sold by: The Silver Cabinet

This is a glorious example of a Victorian solid sterling silver Claret Jug.

It is clearly marked on the top of the neck with the maker''s mark of Joseph Angell II and the Assay office mark of London 1851. The bulbous, bright cut body is decorated with leaves which stop at the base of the long, slender neck. The cork, which appears to be original, is topped with a ''Claret'' sign on a mother of pearl disc. The elegant handle loops above the spout and has a highly detailed snake wrapped around its base. There is a strange little face on the underside of the handle.

The silver is in excellent condition. The gilding on the inside is also in very good condition.
