This is a fine example of Victorian craftsmanship.
It will work with any crock or wheel of cheese.
The implement had to be efficient and unable to be easily bent. These were very popular from the mid 1700's to the end of the Edwardian era, and are much desired and prised today.
Gorgeous large ivory spiral and solid silver handle leads to long thick gauged part twisted shank having a generous shovel scoop.
The colour, patina and spiral carving of the ivory is spectacular, and it feels wonderful to hold.
Size-10.5 inches long, by 1.5 inches wide.
Weight-135 grams.
A very substantial and beautifully crafted cheese scoop to be admired, and still used for its original purpose.
In very good condition, with no cracks, stains or damage.
These scoops are in great demand, and these nice long ones in great condition don't come along very often. Most of the scoops commonly for sale are much shorter versions.
It is very suitable for giving as a gift with a crock of Stilton cheese and perhaps a beverage of the recipient's choice!
