This is a fine quality antique English Victorian Gothic carved oak hall bench, with a stunning colour, circa 1860, in good original condition. The two-plank seat features carved cylinder bolsters either end and is finished with a simple moulding. Below, the recessed frieze incorporates detailed foliate carvings above a gothic arched apron, finished with multiple drop finials to the front and sides. The seat is raised on turned “bottle” shaped legs. The design and carvings seen on this bench have been taken from the 16th century period.
This item features a rich red-brown oak colour. As it boasts the original polish, it has a lovely colour and patination; this can only be achieved through age and years of care and cleaning it has received.
Condition Report:
This bench is in good original condition, having been constructed from solid oak. Nominal old use marks to the top of the seat (see photos) and leading edges but nothing significant considering the age of the item. The seat retains all of its drop finials. As it boasts the original polish, it has a lovely colour and patination; this can only be achieved through age and years of care and cleaning it has received. This item is well constructed, solid in joint and ready to use.
