A Rare George V Silver 'Salter's' Cigar Ashtray.

An amazing quality silver cigar ashtray with a handsome crest for the Worshipful Company of Salters.

Sal sapit omnia translates as 'Salt seasons everything'. This 'salt' refers not to table salt (sodium chloride) but to 'sparkling thought well expressed' or to some good conversation when eating. This handsome oval example was retailed and made in the West End of London by D & J Welby Ltd of Garrick Street and apart from the gorgeous armorial has 1910 - 1935 engraved on the rim. The gauge of the silver is extraordinary (167 grams) and this is a fine and practical collector's item.
