Antique Georgian Sterling Silver Patch Box 1803

Description

This is an antique Georgian sterling silver patch box measuring 3/4" (2 cms) x 1/2" (1 cm) high and in super condition with no damage or repairs.

It is decorated on the top with an attractive engraved pattern having a shield shape cartouche in the centre.

The bottom has a simple engraved pattern around the edge and there are no inscriptions or monograms - it's hallmarked for Birmingham 1803.

Patch boxes were used to hold small black silk circles that were applied to cover up ugly marks and blemishes on the face and neck caused by smallpox.
