A very unusual solid sterling silver snuff box in the form of a royal baby in a rocking cradle.
Clearly hallmarked on the base and lid for London 1902, with the import marks for Singleton, Benda & Co Ltd. The original hallmark for JD Schleissner & Sohne, Hanau is also clear on the base.
This is a lovely piece with intricate detailing. The baby''s pillow is plumped up, whilst the blanket features bright cut scroll work. The features on the face within the bonnet are crisp. The cradle itself has a basket effect on the side, overlaid with garlands and the ends show empty cartouches with crowns above.
The silver and the gilding inside the snuff box are in excellent condition. The hinge is good, although the lid seems slightly off centre when it is open. The cradle rocks gently.
