Birmingham 1931 Stunning Large English Hallmarked Solid Silver Tray with Handles, Made by Barker Brothers, Excellent Makers, and Weighing Over 3 Kilos!

Description

Birmingham 1931 superb very large English hallmarked solid silver footed tray with twin handles, having lovely oval shape, shaped moulded edge, and supported on hoof feet. Made by Barker Brothers of Unity Works, Constitution Hill, Birmingham, excellent makers. Trays of this quality and weight don't come along very often.

This would be suitable in size for a 4-5 piece tea service if desired.

Made in the Chippendale 18th century style, this was a gift to John Garfield Davies in the year it was made, from his parishioners in Manorbier, St. James, Wales. It includes the provenance of the historical inscription, which can be arranged to be removed if so desired.

During the Depression, when this was made, it would have been extremely expensive, so John Davies was obviously held in great esteem.

Size-24.5 inches long, handle to handle, by 15 inches wide.

Weight-more than 100 troy ounces, or over 3.1 kilos of sterling silver!

Suitable for a tea service, serving drinks or food, or to hold a decanter and drink glasses.

This is an unusually large tray, having an extremely thick and heavy gauge of silver, and very clear hallmarks. This beautifully crafted tray is in very good condition.

With the soaring prices of silver over the last few years, it would also be a most prudent investment, as well as a very functional and beautiful piece to use and display.

Its beauty will be appreciated while this lovely piece appreciates in value.
