Georgian Silver Cream Jug, London 1781 by Charles Hougham.njl10306

18th century
Description

This is a magnificent Georgian solid silver cream jug with very finely embossed rural scenes. Standing on a pedestal foot it bears hallmarks for London 1781 and the maker's mark for Charles Hougham. The embossing work is really very fine and is worth describing: on one side a house sits between stylized trees with a cow lying in the foreground; on the other side a pheasant flies over a large plant and past a tree while a dog watches from below in front of a hut or small house. There is a cartouch under the spout which is engraved with the initials "ILI".

Measurements: 11.2 x 10.2 x 6.0 cms approx.

Weight: 76.95 grams approx.

CONDITION (see photos):

This jug is in really lovely condition. There are no discernible dings or scratches. The hallmarks are good and clear with only slight rubbing and are still perfectly legible.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.
