Antique George Lv Sterling Silver Tureen & Cover 1827 - Queen & Anchor

19th century
Description

This is a superb George IV antique solid sterling silver tureen and cover having the maker’s marks for Rebecca Emes & Edward Barnard and dating to 1827.

The cover has a pattern of ivy leaves and berries to the edge and a beautiful finial of a figure of a standing Queen complete with crown, and holding a large ship’s anchor.

She is surrounded by a decoration of acanthus leaves.

It stands on a square base with a floral pattern to the lower section of the baluster shaped body which is beautifully decorated with a bold flower and leaf pattern.

The 2 handles are quite beautiful having an oak branch pattern with oak leaves and acorns, with further exceptional detailing of oak leaves and acorns where the handles meet the body.

It measures 14” (36 cms) tall to the top of the final and 13” (33 cms) across from the outer measurements of the handles.

Weighing a substantial 2600 grams (84 oz.) it is in excellent condition with no damage or repairs.

The interior is gilded and is in excellent condition and both the body and lid are clearly hallmarked for London 1827 and with the maker’s marks.

There is also a small mark of a swan to the edge of the base.

This is a beautiful piece of antique silver, beautifully made by top makers almost 200 years ago, and as such a genuine piece of history.

The silver finial of a Queen, or at least of someone wearing a crown could signify that it was made for royalty however we have no way of knowing that.

Free worldwide fully insured shipping included in the price.
