Austrian Empire Hallmarked 1840'S Solid Silver Rectangular Snuffbox with All Over Foliate Engraving.

Description

Austrian Empire circa 1840 solid silver all over engraved rectangular snuffbox with rounded ends. Made in Vienna, marked 13 loth for 812.5 fine. Maker's mark TS. The hallmark is partially rubbed.

The lovely combination of bright cut and matt foliate engraving creates a beautiful design, and is found on all sides, including base. It is elegantly arranged in panels surrounded by borders.

The box is rectangular in shape, with rounded ends. It opens with a thumb lift and has the original gilt interior.

The lid closes tightly with a full length hinge.

Evidence of small interior repair to tiny bruise in lower right corner of base.

Originally used for snuff, this well crafted box also makes a lovely box for display, dressing table or desk. It is very tactile to hold.

Weight-90 grams.

Size-3.5 inches long by 1.25 inches deep by 1 1/8 inches high

A really lovely box in very good condition overall, great for the collector of snuff boxes or Austrian silver.
