Robert Bush Antiques has dated this piece to the Regency era.
It is 4 1/2” (11.5 cms) tall and 6” (15 cms0 across the base and is in excellent original condition. There are a few places where the silver has worn slightly and there is a hint of copper showing through, but this is not immediately evident.
As you will know, Sheffield plate was first used in Sheffield England around 1770.
It consisted of a sheet of silver each side of a piece of copper and from about 1790 decorative borders were often applied which were fashioned from lengths of silver wire.
The process of electroplating came into fashion around 1840 from when Sheffield plating ceased to be used.
