EXTREMELY ATTRACTIVE ROUND SILVER BOX WITH MEDIEVAL COIN SET BASE, GILT INTERIOR,IMPORT MARK LONDON 1923. SWAGS AND BOWS DECORATION.

This is an extremely fine, circular, solid silver, box with a gilt interior with the unsual feature of a coin set in the base. The coin is an English "Long Cross" silver coin, which were minted between 1272 and 1485. It is difficult to be sure exactly which "Long Cross" coin it is but it looks like it might be an Edward III silver penny (1344-1351). The box itself is decorated with embossed swags and bows. The lid is also wonderfully decorated and the import marks for London 1923, Elly Isaac Miller are clearly visible.

The lid of the box closes perfectly and the fastening clasp is the head of a small cherub.

An exceptional piece.
