Serpentine Antiques has dated this piece to the Victorian era.
Made by James Dixon and Sons, excellent makers, this is a unique set with carved ivory handles having a beautiful creamy colour and varigated grain, and with beautifully shaped and engraved silver plated blades and tines. Unusually, the ivory is in perfect condition, which is not often found.
Size:knife-9 inches long by 1 inch wide. Fork-7.75 inches long by 7/8 inches wide. Case 10.25 inches long by 8.25 inches wide.
The case is mahogany with brass plaque and inlay to top and sides, and chamfered corners. It has two thin age cracks to the case lid. The interior is fitted and lined with striking silk and velvet fabric.
A very stylish and unusual set in very good condition.
