Serpentine Antiques has dated this piece to the 1940s.
All parts have matching numbers and are fully hallmarked.
This entree dish with cover is of a thick and heavy gauge of silver, and is beautifully shaped with undulating curves also having chased and applied leaf and shell embellishment. It separates into two dishes once the handle is removed, allowing a choice of either one covered dish or two open dishes, and also enabling the entree dish to be compactly stored.
There is matching chasing to the lid interior. Therefore, when the top is reversed and used as an open dish, it matches the bottom dish perfectly.
The cast solid silver leaf and shell decorated handle turns tightly and securely on to the lid, and is a beautiful feature.
Size-overall 12.25 inches long by 9.75 inches wide by 5.75 inches high.
Weight-53.5 troy ounces of solid silver, which is 1664 grams or 1.7 kilos, a generous weight.
A lovely solid silver entree dish, perfect for serving and entertaining. It will be the talking point and star of the table or sideboard.
In very good condition.
