London 1896 Fine Quality Cast Solid Silver Dutch Made Serving Spoon Made for English Export, with Sailboat Finial.

19th century
Description

Dutch solid .934 fine (higher than sterling silver) content fine quality cast silver large serving spoon, made for export to the English market in 1896. Also includes full London 1896 hallmarks and makers mark for Samuel Boyce Landeck, London importer of foreign silver.

Originally assayed at the Leeuwarden office in the Netherlands.

In the Victorian era there was a great demand for such silver, therefore it was made to satisfy such demand. This is a wonderful antique survivor.

All parts of the spoon have hallmarks, and the finial has a three dimensional cast sailboat complete with rigging and four billowing sails, and flag to top of mast. The stem is pierced and cast with faces. The bowl has a shield to centre, and a beautiful surrounding design surmounted with a crown. The reverse of the spoon bowl has a rattail.

Length-7 5/8 inches long total by 1 7/8 inches wide. Bowl is 2.75 inches long.

Weight-85 grams.

This is a lovely spoon in very good condition, which will appeal to the silver collector, or boating enthusiast. It is both a very impressive as well as a practical piece.

We have many other individual and sets of spoons in inventory, so please contact us with your requirements.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.
