The Silver Cabinet has dated this piece to the Victorian era.
Clearly hallmarked on the top for London 1899, with the maker's mark for William Comyns. There is also a partial hallmark on the handle.

The handle unscrews for changing paper. It has three small bruises which don't detract from the overall appearance. The blotter is not gilded - any suggestion of gilding in the photographs is simply a reflection of the camera flash.
