Description

London 1804 Georgian English hallmarked solid silver large table spoon by the famous BATEMAN family makers Peter, Ann and William Bateman.

The Bateman family were very well regarded 18th and 19th century makers, with the most famous one being Hester Bateman. She handed over the family firm to her two sons Jonathan and Peter in 1790. Jonathan was married to Ann. When Jonathan died of cancer in 1791, he left his share to his widow Ann. Ann and her brother-in-law Peter entered their partnership mark in 1791. In 1800 Ann's son William (I), also joined the partnership. Ann retired in 1805, the year after this spoon was made, leaving William and his uncle Peter, to carry on the family business.

Weight-60 grams.

Size-8.75 inches long, by 1.75 inches wide.

The top of the stem has faint original initials K S in block letters, undoubtedly from the joining of a couple through marriage.

With very good hallmarks, a wonderful useful and very collectable Bateman serving spoon for the table, in very good condition.

Over 216 years old!
