Woodbridge Antiques has dated this piece to the 1880s.
A lovely, solid, Victorian, gold plated double locket. An ornate shape with very pretty engraving on the front and back. The back is inscribed ‘Bicycle prize race 1882’. The front is inscribed with the winner's name "Wm. Murphy".
The locket opens and closes very well, with a click and the top has a large loop to attach to a chain or other item such as a pocket watch.

Would make a lovely gift for a cycling enthusiast.
