Circa 1886 Austro-hungarian Solid Silver Engraved Knife with Dolphin Design.

Description

Circa 1886 solid silver .800 fine Austro-Hungarian hallmarked engraved knife, suitable for pate or butter, hallmarked on both handle and blade for the period 1886-1922.

It has a beautiful engraved dolphin design among vegetation on both sides of the blade, and a foliate and scroll raised design to the handle. The dolphin is recognised as the representing life, love, protection and guidance, and has been a popular ornament on silver and other objects for centuries.

There is also a very artistic monogram to one side of the top of the handle.

Size-8 7/8 inches long by 1 1/8 inches wide.

Weight-heavy at 75 grams.

Very pretty, and wonderful quality with lovely engraving.

Iin very good condition.
