This is a very good quality antique French upholstered walnut stool, in the Caroelan style, circa 1880. A stool of this quality and size would most likely have been used in a French country house as either a dressing or window stool. The seat has been freshly upholstered in top quality hard wearing woven wool, cotton tapestry fabric and braiding, which would have reflected the original style of upholstery used. The seat itself is firmly sprung and is very comfortable to sit on. The stool features raised upholstered arms. The stool stands on four ring-turned tapering legs, which are connected by a shaped stretcher for added strength and elegance. The legs terminate on elegant bun feet. The design of the stools’ legs and stretchers are mirror matched on either side.
This is a top quality stool, which is very functional as it consumes very little space. It is rare to see stools of this quality, which are constructed of solid walnut; it makes this stool very desirable.
This stool features a mellow warm walnut finish. It has a fantastic colour and patination; this can only be achieved through age and years of care and cleaning it has received.

Condition Report:
The stool is in excellent condition. The seat has been freshly upholstered in top quality hard wearing woven wool, cotton tapestry fabric and braiding, which would have reflected the original style of upholstery used. The upholstery is therefore clean and free from any wear, dirt or damage. Nominal old use marks to the leading edges of the stool frame but nothing significant considering the age of the item. Importantly, there are no breaks to the arms or legs. This item is solid in joint and ready to use.
