This unusual solid sterling silver vinaigrette is styled as a full hunter pocket watch.
It is hallmarked for Birmingham 1804, during the reign of George III, and carrying the maker''s mark for Samuel Pemberton.
It is in wonderful condition. The silver on the outside is unblemished, smooth and tactile. The gilding on the patchwork-design grill is, again, in excellent condition.
The gilding inside the front cover is not smooth and looks in part to have been impressed at some time upon the grill design. The holes in the grill are partially reflected upon the inside of the front cover, as is the patchwork pattern, and this is highlighted in the photographs. The exterior is not gilded - this is just a reflection of the camera flash.
The hinges are tight and the vinaigrette closes with a satisfying click.
