This stool of this quality and size would most likely have been used in a French country house as either a dressing or window stool. This stool has been freshly upholstered in top quality heavy silk hardwearing damask upholstery and brass studded braid, which would have reflected the original style of upholstery used. The seat is firmly sprung and is comfortable to sit on. The frame of the stool has a geometric carved frame. The tops of the legs feature carved acanthus leaves and then taper onto a reeded leg. The design of the stools’ legs and stretchers are mirror matched on either side. The upper section of the stool features raised arms, which are connected by a tuned & reeded shaped stretcher.

This is a top quality stool, which is very functional as it consumes very little space. It is rare to see stools, which are constructed of ebonised beech; it makes this stool quite rare.
This stool features a rich dark ebonised finish. As it boasts the original polish, it has a fantastic colour and patination; this can only be achieved through age and years of care and cleaning it has received.
