This is a very good quality rectangular shaped antique French carved upholstered stool, circa 1880, constructed of beech with a near ebonised polish finish. This stool of this quality and size would most likely have been used in a French country house as either a dressing or window stool. This stool has been freshly upholstered in top quality heavy silk hardwearing damask upholstery and brass studded braid, which would have reflected the original style of upholstery used. The seat is firmly sprung and is comfortable to sit on. The frame of the stool has a geometric carved frame. The tops of the legs feature carved acanthus leaves and then taper onto a reeded leg. The design of the stools’ legs and stretchers are mirror matched on either side. The upper section of the stool features raised arms, which are connected by a tuned & reeded shaped stretcher.

This is a top quality stool, which is very functional as it consumes very little space. It is rare to see stools, which are constructed of ebonised beech; it makes this stool quite rare.

This stool features a rich dark ebonised finish. As it boasts the original polish, it has a fantastic colour and patination; this can only be achieved through age and years of care and cleaning it has received.

Dimensions:

External Height = 66.3cm or 26” or 2ft 2”

External Width = 66cm or 26” or 2ft 2”

External Depth = 40.5cm or 16” or 1ft 4”

Seat Height = 46.5cm or 18¼” or 1ft 6¼”

Seat Width = 58cm or 22” or 1ft 10”

Seat Depth = 40cm or 15¾” or 1ft 3¾”

Condition Report:

This stool frame is in excellent original condition. This stool has been freshly upholstered in top quality heavy silk hardwearing damask upholstery and brass studded braid, which would have reflected the original style of upholstery used. The upholstery is therefore clean and free from any wear, dirt or damage. The stool frame boasts its original polish. Nominal old use marks to the leading edges of the stool frame but nothing significant considering the age of the item. Importantly, there are no breaks to the legs. This item is solid in joint and ready to use.
