Antique Solid Silver Mote Spoon

Status: This item has been sold
Sold by: The Silver Cabinet

A lovely example of a solid sterling silver mote spoon.

Produced and used in the mid 18th century, these spoons were designed to clear the dust off (and strain) the large tea leaves of the time. The purpose of the pointed stem was to clear the teapot spout.

The hallmarks are small and difficult to decipher. The Assay Office mark is almost certainly that for Chester.
