Circa 1910, a Large 60 Piece Sterling Silver Table Service Canteen of Flatware by Famous Maker Gorham, in the Fairfax Pattern, and Contained in the Original Solid Mahogany Canteen.

1900 - 1920
Description

Circa 1910, a 60 piece wonderful quality sterling silver table service canteen made by famous and very influential maker Gorham, in the classic Fairfax pattern, which has elegant understated and straight lines. This silver is .925 fine, identical to solid English silver.

It is contained in the original vintage lovely solid mahogany fitted case with shaped top and brass plaque and handles. The case has been professionally polished.

The service consists of 60 pieces comprising six huge 8 piece place settings with some extra pieces: 6 large dinner sized knives(1 with silver plate blade, 5 stainless); 6 place sized knives, 6 large dinner forks; 6 place sized forks; 12 teaspoons; 7 salad/cake forks; 2 butter/cheese knives; 8 ice cream forks (very unusual and rare pieces); 6 serving spoons; 1 master butter knife.

As both dinner and place sized knives and forks are included, as well as 12 teaspoons, there are enough 3 piece place settings to serve 12 people when needed, a very nice bonus, which makes this canteen very versatile and expandable.

Additional pieces can also still be obtained if required.

Weight-1975 grams, or 63.5 troy ounces, or 4.4 lbs (not including knives)! The 12 knives, having sterling silver handles, have not been included in the weight at all.

Size-dinner size knives 9 5/8 inches long; place size knives 8.75 inches long; dinner size forks 7 7/8 inches long; place size forks 7.25 inches long; teaspoons 5.75 inches long; salad/cake forks 6 inches long; butter/cheese knives 5.5 inches long; ice cream forks 5.5 inches long; serving spoons 8 3/8 inches long by 1.75 inch wide bowls; master butter knife 6.75 inches long.

This canteen of solid silver cutlery is in very good condition. It is a beautiful set for your table, and an excellent value for solid silver, which will provide many years of service. The pattern will also blend nicely with any other tableware.

Gorham is a renowned maker, whose silver was frequently acquired and used by many White House administrations.

With the continuous rise of solid silver prices in this economy, it is also a very prudent investment for the future.
