George VI Coronation Stool

1920 - 1940
Description

Liked Oak stool made for the coronation of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth in 1937. Original horsehair upholstery and velvet, faded but intact. Branded with the GRVI cipher and CORONATION. There were a total of 5,700 stools made by approved furniture makers to exacting standards. Each stool was inspected by Government officials before being stamped with the GRVI crown. This stool has a later added plaque, possibly by its proud owner as after the ceremony those who occupied the stools were offered the opportunity to purchase them.
