Serpentine Antiques has dated this piece to the 1930s.
They were made in many materials, and some in precious metals like this one, usually with gilt linings, to protect against corrosion from the match heads. They were widely made and used from 1890-1920. Now, they are very collectable and interesting small antique silver items, used for pills, etc.
Of wonderful quality, this match safe has all over hexagonal engraving, a vacant cartouche, and tapered edges. Also includes original matches.

Size-2.5 inches by 1.75 inches.
A lovely example in very good condition.
