This is a beautiful large solid sterling silver box, made by Henry Matthews and clearly hallmarked for Birmingham 1906.
Weighing 166g, it is solid and tactile.
The angels or cherubs on the lid are crisp and the gilding inside is in excellent condition.
The lid fits tightly to the base and the hinge is solid.
Originally used for snuff, this table box could be used for a variety of purposes, including jewellery, trinkets and, of course, snuff.
