Pair Of Edwardian Sterling Silver Curling Irons By William Davenport

Status: This item has been sold
Sold by: TJR Trading

This is a pair of Edwardian hallmarked sterling silver curling irons together with box. They were assayed in Birmingham in 1902/3 and bear the hallmarks of William Davenport. The handles of the irons bear continental silver hallmarks so it is probable that they were imported to Britain.

The blades of the curling irons are stamped ''Steel'', and the interior of the box is silver plated. The stand for the irons inside the box is stamped ''Unecht'', which is German for ''false'', presumably to denote that the interior of the box is not solid silver.

The box even still has a wick inside to light the fluid.

The box has a number of dents and scratches, the hallmarks are rubbed, and is monogrammed to the exterior. The irons are also monogrammed and have some surface marks.

The irons are 20cm long and the box is 9.6cm long when closed. Together they weigh 375g.
