This is a very good quality pair of rectangular shaped antique French carved upholstered tapestry stools, circa 1880, constructed of beech with an ebonised polish finish. Stools of this quality and size would most likely have been used in a French country house. It is unusual to see a pair of stools with their original needlepoint tapestry upholstery. The tapestry depicts a bird flanked by an elegant colourful floral scene. The seats are firmly sprung and are comfortable to sit on. The original brass studded braiding holds the upholstery in place. The stools sit on elegant turned and carved floral legs. The design of the stool legs and stretchers are mirror matches on either side. The front and rear of the stools features an elegant double carved scroll stretcher. Connecting turned stretchers secure the front and back legs for added stability.

This is a top quality set of stools, which are very functional as it consumes very little space. It is rare to see a set of stools, which are also constructed of ebonized beech; it makes these stools quite rare.

This pair of stools features a rich dark ebonised finish. As they boast the original polish, they have a fantastic colour and patination; this can only be achieved through age and years of care and cleaning they have received.

Dimensions:

Height = 54.5cm or 21½” or 1ft 9½”

Width = 48cm or 19” or 1ft 7”

Depth = 41.5cm or 16½” or 1ft 4½”

Condition Report:

This set of stools is in excellent original condition. The stools boast their original polish and original tapestry upholstery, which is rare to see. The tapestry upholstery is clean and free of any damage, rips or tears. Nominal old use marks to the leading edges but nothing significant considering the age of the item. Importantly, there are no breaks to the stretchers or legs. This item is free of woodworm, solid in joint and ready to use.
