Antique Silver Britannia Standard Porringer

Status: This item has been sold
Sold by: The Silver Cabinet

An excellent solid sterling silver porringer, heavily decorated in a Georgian style.

The clear hallmarks date this at 1900, assayed in London. The maker''s mark is slightly rubbed and is possibly that of Robert Stewart.

The hallmark shows the Britannia Standard - a higher standard of silver than that showing the lion passant - introduced in 1696, which shows this piece to be 95.8% pure silver.

The porringer has a fluted design with an empty cartouche. The handles are firmly fixed and the hallmarks are slightly to one side of the handle.

Overall in excellent condition.
