Description

Easily the most fabulous, clever, original - and wonderfully bonkers! - ring we've ever had. Just so exquisite. Early Victorian jewellery is full of depictions of insects, and this is a seriously fine example. Originally a brooch, we decided this would look great as a ring so set it on a chunky split band.

You have to bear in mind that each of the diamond "wings" would have been especially cut for this piece, as would the citrine "body" and cabochon ruby eyes. Amazingly high class jewellery making, the like of which we just don't see any more. We could look at this all day!

Cut - Rose cut diamond wings, fancy cut body amd cabochon eyes.

Colour - Totally white diamonds. F/G.

Clarity - VVS.

Carat - Total approximate weight of the wings is 1.50 carat.

Condition - Fine

Size - Current ring size L (UK) or 5 1/2 (US). Complementary resizing is available, can go up or down in size.

Circa - 1850

Measurements - The butterfly measures 23.5mm by 13mm and sits 3mm from the finger

Metal - All the yellow metal is 18k yellow gold. The white metal is silver. This is a typical combination of metals in fine Victorian jewellery, before the proliferation of platinum as a precious metal.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.
